When Roger called us, it was initially to upgrade only the wiring in the garage. So, we scheduled a consultation and arrived to find the structure full of knob and tube wiring.
As we discussed all the power needs for the garage, we had originally determined that everything could be solved by upgrading to a 200-amp service. But then we did some more inspecting.
We went to Roger’s main house, a four-story home built in the early 1900s. As with most houses from this period, it, too, had knob and tube wiring.
After seeing the extent of this outdated type of wiring, we determined the best option would be to complete a whole home rewiring project that included the garage. But instead of just upgrading to 200 amps, we recommended 400 amps.
Getting All The Details Just Right
Roger has a collection of BMW cars that he keeps in his freestanding garage. So, as we were planning his project, we took note of any special needs he had to maintain these premium vehicles.
Not to mention, since he invested so much in his collection, he wanted a nice place to store them instead of just your average garage.
So, we evaluated the space and made some suggestions to optimize what he had to work with. In the end, we created a beautiful showroom-style space that showcased his cars just how he wanted.
On top of upgrading Roger’s electrical service to 400 amps, we also installed lighting throughout the garage, installed car chargers, and added a ductless mini-split unit.
While it seems pretty straightforward, it was actually a rather complex project that involved a bunch of moving parts.
